Children and parents visiting the Manchester Children’s Book Festival Family Fun Day this weekend had the opportunity to try out lots of different fun activities including family yoga!
On hand to offer her expertise was Manchester Metropolitan University MA student Amanda Lungren. Amanda told us, “Yoga is a really beneficial way to encourage children to connect with their bodies in a way that they might not normally do. The sessions also include some meditation which can be particularly beneficial to families.”
Amanda demonstrated some yoga moves while telling the story of Phillips Reeves’ and Sarah McIntyre’s Pugs of the Frozen North. Stretching her arms high, she encouraged the children to “Stand up, reach high to the sky, all the way down to the deck of the ship,” inviting families to pretend they were heading to the frozen north themselves!
All of the children who attended the sessions had a fantastic time, with parents leaving the yoga sessions feeling relaxed enough to try out all of the other fantastic activities and workshops offered at the MCBF Family Fun Day!
The Manchester Children’s Book Festival runs from 24th June – 3rd July. Download the 2016 brochure for information on upcoming events.
