captureTo celebrate the World Book Day’s 20th anniversary we are offering our book loving fans the chance to win vouchers to help feed their reading addiction. To enter, simply tag @MCBFestival in your #WorldBookDay pics with the name of your favourite book and you could be in with a chance of winning a £20 book voucher. You can never have too many books, right?

What is World Book Day?

It’s a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and (most importantly) it’s a celebration of reading. World Book Day is the biggest celebration of its kind, marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

There are clear links between reading as a child and performing better in tests at school, as well as developing broader vocabularies, increasing general knowledge and gaining a better understanding of other cultures. World Book Day is a celebration of these facts, books themselves and the authors and illustrators that make it all possible.

£1 World Book Day token and how to use it

World Book Day, in partnership with schools all over the country, will be distributing more than 15 million £1 World Book Day book tokens to children, offering £1 off any book, or a free book from their fantastic shortlist. To snap up a free book, all you need to do is to take your token to your local bookshop and swap it for one of the ten exclusive and completely free World Book Day books. You can find the list here.

The offer runs from February 27 – March 26, so you’d best get moving!

World Book Day takes place on March 2 in the UK this year, but in other countries it’s celebrated on April 23 – the birthday of William Shakespeare!

The date for World Book Day changes every year to make sure it doesn’t overlap with school holidays, other charity events and religious holidays.

This year is not only the 20th anniversary of World Book Day, but also the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. We’re hoping you all get into the spirit and send us your fancy dress pics!

The Manchester Children’s Book Festival have plenty more dates up their sleeve throughout the year. Make sure the FREE Family Fun Day, taking place June 24 is in your diary!
